Situated on the southern side of the Prenestini Mountains, at only 39 km to east of Rome, Palestrina has ancient origins because the country was already flourishing in 7th century B.C.

Remarkable the famous Romans ruins of Sanctuary of "Fortuna Primigenia", huge and complex architecture (half of the second sec. B.C. - first sec. A.D.), one of the greater sanctuaries of classic age. Important, in the inferior part, l’Antro delle Sorti, small cove in which was found again the Prenestine Fortune, tablets number with letters of the alphabet with the divine power. The advanced part is, instead, characterized from terraces, combined, from rampe and perrons to arcade, crowning from circular temple.

There are also romans ruins like those of Forum and of romain houses.

Of great interest the National Museum Archaeological Prenestino. Placed to Colonna Palace - Barberini, the museum has a collection of material of local origin, that includes a famous mosaic with landscape of the Nilo, and offers interesting information on the Lazio civilization from 8th B.C to the 4th A.D. century.

Wonderful also churches like the Cathedral with four sepulchral stone.


Of great interest the tour itinerary through the "Monti Prenestini", mountain range rich of vegetation formed mostly of olive grove, beechs and oaks with numerous and vary rich countries of history, culture and traditions, to the discovery ancient palaces, severe stronghold and fascinating castles. From the Baronial Palace of Palestrina to the Castle Colonna of Castello San Pietro, from the Palace Colonna of Genazzano to the stronghold of "Colonna di Rocca di Cave"; from the Frascati Cathedral to the International Museum of Contemporary Art of Genazzano, from the Civic Museum of Natural History of Capranica Palestrina to the Museum Geo-Paleontological di Rocca di Cave, from the Museum of the folk wisdom di Cave to the Museum of the Hemp of Pisoniano.
